Melvin L. Divelbiss, 86, Salina, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003. Mr. Divelbiss was born Jan. 26, 1917, at Salina. He worked construction for Wayne Holmes Basement Foundations Co. for more than 30 years. After retirement, he worked for Water's True Value Hardware. He was active in Boy Scouts and served as scoutmaster for Troops 4 and 6. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1432 and American Legion Post 62, both of Salina. He served in the 101st Airborne, 506 PIR during World War II and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard V. Divelbiss, who died in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, Howard and Gerald, both of Salina; four daughters, Nancy Evans of Salina, Frances Nestler of Olathe, Rosalie Divelbiss of Seneca and Ruth Divelbiss of Dodge City; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Inurnment will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina. Memorials may be made to Boy Scouts. There will be no visitation. |
