Charles Kenneth Helwick, 84, Salina, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003. Mr. Helwick was born Nov. 24, 1919, at Salina. He owned and operated Helwick Motors in Ellsworth and also worked for Royal Equipment Company in Kansas City. He was a member of the Ellsworth Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ellsworth American Legion Post, Salina Downtown Lions and Salina Elks Lodge. He was also a Mason and a member of Isis Shrine. He was a Captain in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Blanche of Salina; a daughter, Margot Kurtz and husband Stephen of Rochester, Minn.; a sister, Mary Deming of Visalia, Calif.; two grandchildren, Christopher Kurtz and Annie Van Gorp and husband Mark, all of Minneapolis, Minn.; and two great-grandsons, Alexander and Michael Van Gorp of Minneapolis. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Methodist Church, Salina, the Rev. Loren Marler officiating. Inurnment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina, with military honors presented by Salina VFW Post No. 1432. Memorials may be made to the church or Hospice of Salina. There will be no visitation. Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, is handling arrangements. |
