Mr. VanWie was born April 18, 1927, in Salina. He worked for Beech Aircraft in the supply department. He served in the Army from 1945-1947 and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post No. 62.

Survivors include a brother, Dean VanWie of Salina; a sister, Barbara Rae of Clinton Township, Mich.; three nephews, Ron Rae of St. Charles, Ill., Randy Rae of Clinton Township and Kevin VanWie of Salina; two nieces, Debbie Armstrong of Westland, Mich., and Christin Choy of Anchorage, Alaska; a grand-nephew; and four grand-nieces.
