John G. Waldschmidt
September 23, 1905 - November 13, 2003

John G. Waldschmidt, 98, Salina, died Thursday Nov. 13, 2003.

Mr. Waldschmidt was born Sept. 23, 1905, in Ellis. He worked as a door and sash carpenter for Salina Planning Mill for many years before retiring in 1980.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Herbert Paul and Melvin Theodore; and a great-grandchild.

Survivors include his wife, Hermenia "Minnie"; three sons, John of Phoenix, Bernard of Salina, and Don of Apache Junction, Ariz.; three daughters, Bernita Powell of Danville, Va., Leveda Peters of Jonesborough, Tenn. and Janeth Byer of Salina; a sister, Aggie Phannenstiel of Ferndale, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina.

A vigil and rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth, Salina.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
