Mr. Beets was born Jan. 12, 1923, in Wichita, the son of Milton and Aulta Catherine (Ong) Beets. He was a golf professional for the Salina Country Club from 1955 to 1988, was golf professional at the Manhattan Country Club from 1952 to 1955 and was assistant pro at Wichita Country Club. He was inducted into the Kansas Golf Association Hall of Fame in 2002.

He married Joy Lemon on Dec. 6, 1947, in Wichita.

Survivors include his wife, Joy, of Salina; two sons, Terry of Roscoe, Ill., and Richard "Rick" of Salina; two brothers, Max and Eldis, both of Wichita; and four grandchildren, Emily, Ryan, Joel and Jason Beets.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Salina, the Rev. Troy Bowers officiating.

Memorials may be made to First Tee of Kansas, the church or Salina Community Theater.

There will be no visitation.
