Florence E. Day, 85, Salina, died Saturday, October 2, 2004. She was born February 15, 1919 in Corning, Iowa to Frank and Edith Day. After the death of her father, she and her mother moved to Riverside, CA where she graduated from Riverside Polytechnic H.S. During WWII she worked at March Field Air Base. Later jobs included church secretary, and live-in housekeeper. After she moved to Salina she worked at Tony's Pizza until her retirement in 1984. In the 1960's she sang in the chorus at a Billy Graham Crusade in the Hollywood Bowl. When California's smog began to cause her serious health problems she moved to Salina at the urging of close friends, Betty & Tonia Hunter. Miss Day was a trained and accomplished vocalist. She sang with the RSVP chorus until her health no longer permitted. She was a past president of two AARP chapters, a member of First United Methodist Church, Salina, the Pathefinders Sunday school class and Rays of the Sun. Survivors include numerous cousins throughout the US, including special cousins Martin & Kathy Curtis of Forestville, CA. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 5th at the First United Methodist Church, Salina, the Rev. Troy Bowers officiating. There will be a private inurnment at a later date. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. There will be no visitation. |
