John R. "Jack" Dean
July 28, 1923 - August 30, 2004

John Robert "Jack" Dean, 81, Salina, died Monday, August 30, 2004.

Mr. Dean was born July 28, 1923, in Marion, the son of C.D. and Doris Dean. He served in the Navy Air Corp in World War II. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Kansas State where he played basketball and baseball. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He also played baseball with the Topeka Owls. He taught and coached at Topeka High School and at Salina South and Salina Central, retiring in 1985. He was an avid fisherman and golfer and a member of the Salina Municipal Men's Golf Association and the Senior Men's Golf Association. He was a member of the University United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary "Jo" of the home; and a sister, Anne Walsh of Foxfire Village, N.C.

A private inurnment service will be at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the University United Methodist Church or the "First Tee" at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.
