Gordon D. Fiedler Sr.
February 17, 1911 - January 17, 2004

Gordon D. Fiedler Sr., 92, Salina, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004.

Mr. Fiedler was born Feb. 17, 1911, in Dunellen, N.J. He worked for F.W. Woolworth in Dunellen and Baltimore and for the Ben Franklin Co. in Washington, D.C. He then started his own business, Gordon, Inc., a five and dime variety store. In 1962, he moved to Salina and became a real estate agent, working for Verner Smith Agency and later owned and operated his own company, Gordon Fiedler Realty. He was a member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church of Salina and Mariners "Cruisers" of the church. He was a member of Anchor Masonic Lodge No. 149 of Plainfield, N.J., and Isis Shrine, Scottish Rite and Heart of America Lions Club, all of Salina. He was a member and twice president of the Friendship Lions in Washington, D.C., and president once of the Heart of America Club. He also loved to fish.

He married his wife, Catherine, on Nov. 26, 1936, in Dunellen, N.J.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine of the home; a son, Gordon D. Jr. and wife Patti of Tescott; a daughter, Cathy Smith of Galveston, Texas; six grandchildren, Bret Douglas Smith of Kingman, Ariz., Wendy Smith Buttino of Los Angeles, Martha Hoffman of Santa Fe, Texas, Sgt. Shannon Douglas Fiedler of Twentynine Palms, Calif., Mitchell William Fiedler of Lawton, Okla., and Sara Catherine Fiedler of Overland Park; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, Salina, the Rev. John Pehrson officiating. Burial will be in Crown Point Cemetery, Culver.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
