Mrs. Hughes was born Leila Mae Smith on Aug. 15, 1923, in Brighton, Colo. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Harry of the home; two daughters, Kathleen Hughes of Lawrence and Kerry Swearingen and her husband, Derrill, of Colorado City, Colo.; a sister, Geneva Walle of Salina; a grandson, Shane Ewing of Aurora, Colo.; a stepgranddaughter, Debbie Hustus and her husband, Ron, of Gypsum; two stepgrandsons, Raymond Swearingen and his wife. Rachelle, of Bennington and Brian Swearingen of Manhattan; two stepgreat-granddaughters, Jessica Hustus of Gypsum and Samantha Swearingen of Bennington; and a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Culver.
