Mr. Jewell was born Sept. 26, 1922, in West Liberty, Ohio. He served 28 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a master sergeant. He also worked in maintenance for First Christian Church, Salina, retiring in 1996.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie, in 2000; a son, Del M. Jewell, in 1994; a daughter, Georganne Jewell, in 1947; and two grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce of Kentucky and Gary of Salina; five daughters, Lorraine Jewell, Sharlene Milligan, Vera Jewell and Vanessa Jewell, all of Salina, and Trudy Fisher of Wakarusa; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and his special friend, Vicky Milleson of Salina.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina, with military honors provided by Fort Riley.
