Clarence L. "Clancy" King Jr., 71, Salina, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004. Mr. King was born April 5, 1932, at Salina. He was an attorney in private practice with Hampton & Royce, L.C., Salina. He served as a delegate to the Deomocratic National Cenvention in Chicago in 1968 and was a delegate to the White House Conference on Children and Youth in 1970. He was the founder of the Big Brother Big Sister program in Salina and has been honored as the outstanding Young Man of Salina. He has received the Distinguished Service to Youth award, "Patriot of Today" Award and the Phil Lewis Medal of Distinction Award. He has received the "Outstanding Young Alumnus of Kansas Wesleyan University" award where he was a member of the Kansas Wesleyan University Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a recepient of the KWU Distinguished Service Award in 1993 and was a former KWU board member. He was a board member of First Bank of Kansas, past president of the Kansas Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates and was past national president, executive committee member and board of directors member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He was listed in the Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in Politics, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World and was listed in the first edition of "The Best Lawyers of America." Survivors include his wife, Doris of Salina; a son, Jeff and wife Jan of Salina; a daughter, Joni King Ffrench and husband Bob of Houston; five sisters, Virginia Bain and Karen Rhodenbaugh, both of Salina, Joan DePew of Junction City, Lois Wier of Austin, Texas, and Edith Hurtig of Tescott; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Salina. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina. Memorials may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina or Salina Regional Health Center Cancer Unit. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. |
