Eugene Burton "Gene" Miller
August 14, 1923 - April 18, 2004

Eugene Burton "Gene" Miller, 80, Salina, died Sunday, April 18, 2004.

Mr. Miller was born Aug. 14, 1923, in Kansas City, Kan. He worked for the Veterans Administration and Standard Brands in Kansas City, Mo., and then was a Kansas City Star newspaper agent and distributor in Salina. After retirement, he worked for the Gibson Discount Store in Salina. He was a member of University United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of BPOE No. 718 of Salina. He was a former member of Salina Downtown Lions Club, the Retail Bakers Association in Kansas City and the Missouri Restaurant Association.

He married Merle Dean "DeDe" Blacker on April 13, 1946, at Kansas City, Mo.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Oliver Miller; and a sister, Virginia John.

Survivors include his wife, Merle Dean "DeDe" of the home; a son, Christopher Miller and wife Rita of Newton; three daughters, Sherry Peterson and husband John of Phoenix, Jennifer L. Brown of Salina and Tamra Hardinger and husband Kerry of Overland Park; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Miller of Long Beach, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, John Eric Peterson Jr., Christine Peterson Cooper, Jessica Miller Senn, Timothy Peterson, Lauren Brown, Ashley Hardinger Guerra, Samuel Miller, Blair Brown, Aimee Hardinger, Oliver Miller, Jayson Brown, Kendal Hardinger and Alyssa Hardinger; and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at University United Methodist Church, Salina, the Rev. Christi Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Memorials may be made to the church or Hospice of Salina.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
