Carol J. (Wilcox) Shaw, 96, Salina, died Sunday, June 20, 2004. Mrs. Shaw was born Carol J. Wilcox to Norris W. and Elsa M. McCarty-Wilcox on Feb. 24, 1908, in Salina. She graduated from high school in Paradise in 1927. On Sept. 2, 1934, she married Fred H. Shaw in San Francisco. She was a bookkeeper for her husband, who was district manager for several large restaurants in Los Angeles and Hollywood and later in Chicago and Oak Park, Ill. In 1963, Mrs. Shaw became manager of the fabric department at Welles Department Store, Salina, until retiring in 1973. She was a member of Salemsborg Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher for eight years until joining Falun Lutheran Church in 1975. She served as chairwoman of the women's quilting program and was also a member of the Democrat Precinct Committee Women, the local rural water board, Falun Senior Citizens and the Falun Park Board. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred H. Survivors include her two daughters, Grace Claussen of Salina and Veralyn Bash of Alaska; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. There will be a small memorial ceremony on July 3, when the family will inter her ashes at Mount Herman Cemetery, Paradise. Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, is handling arrangements. |
