Mrs. Barenberg was born Elizabeth Schmidt on November 22, 1947, in Victoria. She was a registered nurse for Kenwood View Health Care LLC, in Salina from 1997-2004. She graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1992 with a degree in nursing. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Nursing Society and the VFW Women's Auxiliary. She married Stan Barenberg in 1985 in Ellis.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Schmidt; a sister, Darlene Marlin; and a son, Justin Alan Barenberg, in 2002.

Survivors include her husband, Stan of the home; a son, Brad Schafer of Independence; a daughter, Lisa Hamilton of Salina; her mother, Lillian Dinges of Ellis; three brothers, Harold Schmidt of Opelousas, La., and John Schmidt and Kenny Schmidt, both of Ellis; three sisters, Rosetta Aschenbrenner and Tina Keller, both of Ellis, and Marlene Morgan of Stockton; four grandchildren, Amber Riggs and Keisha Hamilton, both of Salina, and Kira Schafer and Abbey Schafer, both of Independence; and a nephew, Brad Baes and his wife Jessika.

The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, Salina, the Rev. Kerry Ninemire officiating. Cremation will follow the service with inurnment at a later date.

A vigil service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401.
