Mr. Base was born Jan. 1, 1932, in Salina. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Carol, of the home; two sons, Vincent Hulett of Chanute, Kan., and Greg Kersten of Talladega; two daughters, Glenda Kersten of Talladega and Royjeana Oler of Elizabethtown, N.C.; a half brother, William Keller; a half sister, Mary Brewer of Oklahoma; a sister, Anita Shull of Salina; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Peace Valley Cemetery, near Roxbury, Kan.

There will be no visitation.
