Arline L. Block, 85, Salina, died Sunday, January 2, 2005. Mrs. Block was born March 25, 1919, in Smolan. She was a librarian at Kansas Wesleyan University. She was a secretary at Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member of Women of the ELCA She attended Bethany College and Kansas Wesleyan University. She taught at Canton in a one-room schoolhouse and third grade at Lowell Elementary until her marriage to Gerald Henry Block on Dec. 30, 1950, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Salina. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Sandberg and the former Ellen Nelson. Survivors include her husband, Gerald, of Salina; a son, Gordon Block and wife Tia of Yamhill, Ore.; three daughters, Audrey Block of Portland, Ore., Stephanie Dotzel and husband Robert of Iowa City, Iowa, and Valerie Block of Manassas, Va.; four granddaughters, Annie Block of Vancouver, BC, Ingrid Block of Grass Valley, Calif., and Krista Dotzel and Rebekah Dotzel of Iowa City; a sister, Leota Huff of London, Ky.; a brother, George Sandberg of Greeley, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Yolanda Sandberg of Seminole, Fla.; six nieces; and three nephews. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Rev. Kent Happel officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the church and Good Samaritan Center, Minneapolis. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. |
