William "Joe" Cather
December 9, 1933 - August 8, 2005

William "Joe" Cather, 71, Salina, died Monday, August 8, 2005.

Mr. Cather was born Dec. 9, 1933, near Beloit. He was a retired design engineer and draftsman for Salina Vortex. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed woodworking and made many wooden rocking horses, motorcycles and furniture pieces that he gave away and donated to charitable organizations.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie, in 1976.

Survivors include a son, J. Mark Cather and wife Kathy of Olathe; a daughter, Debra Cather of Salina; a brother, Robert Don Cather of Beloit; and two grandchildren, Jenna Cather of Dodge City and Sophie Cather of Olathe.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit, the Rev. Loren Houltberg officiating.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
