Mrs. Gottfrid was born in Salina, Kan., and grew up in Gypsum, Kan. She attended Kansas State University, where she majored in secondary education-history. She was also a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority and was the assistant yearbook editor. She married her husband, Joe, in 1963. She obtained a degree in special education and taught at Center School in Highland Park for 17 years.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Joe; her children, Signe Davis and husband Tate, Shelley Giles and husband Dave, Derek Gottfrid and wife Romi and Chad Gottfrid and wife Jane; her grandchildren, Tate, Caroline, Joshua, Daniel, Allison, Cameron, Annika and Emma; her mother, Lenora Mortimer; and a brother, Alan Mortimer and wife Rosemarie.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, New Providence. A service also will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Gypsum First Baptist Church, Gypsum. Burial will follow.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung.
