Raphael Louis “Ray" Kubitschek, 85, Salina, died Sunday, January 2, 2005. Mr. Kubitschek was born Dec. 25, 1919, in Salina. He was a salesman for Salina Supply Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was a U.S. Air Force staff sergeant in World War II. He served at Fort Leavenworth, Manila, Philippines, Zamboanga and Palowan for 4€ years. He received the American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1432 and Salina Leslie Kreps American Legion Post. He married the former Leilla Hill on Nov. 5, 1942, in Salina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferdinand Leo Kubitschek and the former Victoria Teresa Gehr. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Leilla, of Salina; a son, Dr. Kenneth Kubitschek and wife Janice of Asheville, N.C.; two daughters, Kay D. Williams and husband Ron of Fairfax, Va., and Kathy R. Fitzpatrick and husband Robert “Fitz” of Overland Park; two sisters, Helen Samsel and husband Delmar of Springfield, Mo., and Martha Ann Ashenfelter of Salina; 13 grandchildren, Brad Williams of Fairfax, Va., Kelly, Kristen, Ben and Brett Fitzpatrick of Overland Park, and Brent, Evan, Carolyn, Carrie, Courtney, Austin, Catherine and Claire Kubitschek of Asheville; three nephews, John Hill of Hailey, Idaho, Cary Hill of Las Vegas and Tom Samsel of Springfield, Mo.; and two nieces, Vicki La Hay of Springfield, Mo., and Becky Augustine of Salina. The funeral will be a 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud, Salina, the Rev. Kerry Ninemire officiating. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, with military honors by Salina VFW Post 1432. Memorials may be made to Tammy Walker Cancer Center or Hospice of Salina, 139 N. Penn, Salina. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67501, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. |
