| Ray Dean Mortimer | August 26, 1937 - February 4, 2005 |

Ray Dean Mortimer, 67, Salina, died at his home south of Salina Friday, February 4, 2005. Ray worked construction and was a farmer. He was born on August 26, 1937 to Albert Roy Mortimer, Sr. and Elvena Ann (Reese) Mortimer of rural Mentor. When he was one year old the family moved to a farm near Gypsum where he attended school and graduated from Gypsum rural high school in 1956. Ray served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. He worked for Frisbie Construction, Crane Rental, Holgerson Construction, and Salina Sand Co. In later years he bought and farmed his mothers home place where he hosted picnics and hog roasts for family and friends. Ray loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and attending the grandchildren's activities. Ray leaves to mourn his companion of 35 years, Dixie DeLaney and five children: Douglas Mortimer and wife Joy, Assaria; Vaughn Mortimer and wife Gina, Assaria; Lynn Mortimer, Salina; Tom DeLaney and wife Nancy, Salina; John DeLaney and wife Laura, Hewitt, New Jersey. Survivors also include 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Jean Ann Burch, Salina; and a brother, Albert Roy Mortimer, Jr., Wichita. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Gypsum United Methodist Church, 524 King, Gypsum. Burial will be in the Poheta Cemetery, Kipp. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Salina. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. |
