Milton I. Stiefel
February 11, 1909 - January 31, 2005

Milton I. Stiefel, 95, Salina, died Monday, January 31, 2005.

Mr. Stiefel was born Feb. 11, 1909, in Salina. He received a Business Administration degree from the University of Illinois in 1931. He was a member of the Salina Rotary Club and a former chairman of the board of Marymount College, Salina.

He was president of Stiefel’s Department Store, Salina, for 43 years. He joined Stiefel Brothers and Co., founded in 1904 by his father, Moses, and uncle, Sigmund Stiefel, in 1931. In 2002, Milton Stiefel made the lead gift for the restoration of the Fox Theatre in downtown Salina, and the theater subsequently was renamed the Stiefel Theatre for the Performing Arts.

He married Frances L. “Pat” Felt on April 1, 1951, in Salina. She died in 1985.

Survivors include a second cousin, Babette Freeman, Salina.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greater Salina Community Foundation for the Stiefel Theatre for the Performing Arts Organization Fund or Salina Presbyterian Manor Endowment.

There will be no visitation.
