Elvin Wayne "Van" Van Meter, 65, Salina, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005. Mr. Van Meter was born October 1, 1939 in Gypsum. He was a construction foreman for Brown & Brown Construction and sales representative and trainer for the Barnes Group. He was active in the Coronado Area Boy Scouts for 29 years, and was a former board member and camping and activities chairman. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver and Wood Badge Awards, and both his sons are Eagle Scouts. He was a past president of Salina Ambucs and a Big Hats member. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he was a scoutmaster, mariner, elder, deacon, and chancel choir member. Survivors include his wife Flora, of Salina; two sons, Shawn of Brookside, Mo., and Elvin of Eskridge; a brother, Earl LeRoy of Lawrence; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Salina. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coronado Area Boy Scouts. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. |
