Mr. Van Meter was born October 1, 1939 in Gypsum. He was a construction foreman for Brown & Brown Construction and sales representative and trainer for the Barnes Group.

He was active in the Coronado Area Boy Scouts for 29 years, and was a former board member and camping and activities chairman. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver and Wood Badge Awards, and both his sons are Eagle Scouts. He was a past president of Salina Ambucs and a Big Hats member. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he was a scoutmaster, mariner, elder, deacon, and chancel choir member.

Survivors include his wife Flora, of Salina; two sons, Shawn of Brookside, Mo., and Elvin of Eskridge; a brother, Earl LeRoy of Lawrence; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Salina. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coronado Area Boy Scouts.
