Helen A. Bachofer, 84, Salina, died Thursday, March 16, 2006. Mrs. Bachofer was born Helen A. Levin on June 26, 1921, in Salina. She was a homemaker and co-owned and operated Mid-West Plumbing and Heating, Salina, with her husband, Gene, from 1950 to 1988. She graduated from Salina High Washington School in 1941. She was married to Gene Bachofer, May 28, 1948. She was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral Ladies Guild, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Lady Elks, St. John’s Hospital Auxiliary, Salina Crossroaders and Kansas PHCC. She was a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother and Woman of the Year of Kansas PHCC in 1986. She sang “live production” for KSAL Radio in the 1940s. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, in 1998; and a son, Eddie, in 2003. Survivors include a son, Joe and wife Connie of Salina; three daughters, Diane Schooler, Jean Mull and husband Doug and Mary Bartow and husband Bill, all of Salina; a brother, Dick Levin of Salina; two sisters, LaDonna Pickering and Doris Gay, both of Salina; 11 grandchildren, Tammy, Tracey and Angie O’Brien, Sara McAsey, Nathan Mull, Michelle Ryland, Bobby and Jaime Bartow, Matt and Kelly Bachofer and Brandon Bachofer; and six great-grandchildren, D.J. Short, Kaitlyn and Hannah Caswell, Hunter and Kelby McAsey and Elliott Ryland. The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina. A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Cathedral. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. |
