Max D. Bishop
October 5, 1935 - November 28, 2006

Max D. Bishop, 71, Salina, died Tuesday, November 28, 2006.

Mr. Bishop was born Oct. 5, 1935, in Wichita. He received a degree in architecture from Kansas State University, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta, KSU Alumni Association and Blue Key Honorary Society. He had served in Army Intelligence in the Korean Demilitarized Zone. He was associated with the Charles Shaver Partnership and in 1966 opened Max Bishop Architects. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Salina Country Club. He was a Christian and belonged to First United Methodist Church.

He was able to donate organs to extend the life of others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Verla Jay Bishop and the former Gladys Violet Leeper.

Survivors include his wife, Joellyn, of Salina; a daughter, Teri Bishop Price of Fairway; a son, Craig Bishop of Hutchinson, Minn.; a stepson, Ty Wood and wife Laura of Eagan, Minn.; a stepson, Fritz Wood and wife Cathy of Lake Quivera; seven grandchildren, James Price, Tyson Wood, Kelly Wood, Fritz Wood, Michael Wood, Daniel Wood and Catie Wood; and two brothers, Jim Bishop and wife Marie of Arvada, Colo., and Carl Bishop and wife Leta of Palm Desert, Calif.; sisters Mary and spouse John Cantrell, of Glendale, Ariz, and Maxine and spouse Gus DeLissa of Meade, and Twila and Barry Hartz, of Apple Valley, California.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at University United Methodist Church, the Rev. Troy Bowers officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in Leoti Cemetery, Leoti.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, KSU College of Architecture and Design, the KSU Aheran Scholarship Fund or the Salina Rescue Mission.

Visitation will be Friday from noon until 8 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, where the family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
