GYPSUM — William “Bill” Clapsaddle, 86, Gypsum, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006. Mr. Clapsaddle was born March 28, 1920, in Gypsum. He was the owner of Swain’s Auto Parts, which specialized in auto parts and engine rebuilding. He married his wife of 65 years, Donna Kelley of Gypsum, on June 8, 1941. He served in the United States Army during World War II and rose to the rank of captain before leaving the military. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bellflower, Calif.; American Legion; Automotive Association of Long Beach, Calif.; and NAPA Jobbers Association. Survivors include his wife, Donna “Kelley” Clapsaddle; a son, John and wife Chris of Gypsum; a daughter, Patricia VanOtterloo and husband Alvin of La Palma, Calif.; a brother, Art of Yuma, Ariz.; four grandchildren, John Clapsaddle Jr. of Los Angeles, Michele Oard and husband Jeff of Abilene, Todd VanOtterloo and wife Mary of Rosemount, Minn., and Ryan VanOtterloo and wife, Jenna of Yorba Linda, Calif.; and a great-granddaughter, Alicia Oard of Abilene. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Burial will be in Gypsum Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southeast of Saline Education Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. |
