Mr. Hammond was born Feb. 19, 1929, near Mentor. He was a farmer and a volunteer fireman with Saline County Fire District No. 2. He was a member of Salina Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1432 and Salina American Legion Post 62 and was a Saline County Walnut Township trustee.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of Wichita; two daughters, Karen Hammond and Robin Newton, both of Wichita; a brother, Gary of Assaria; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, near Kipp.

Memorials may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice of Wichita or a recipient of the donor’s choice.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
