She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Rita May Freitag, Marlene Burgardt, and LaVerna Pfannenstiel.

She married Elmer Hammerschmidt on November 14, 1949 at Hays, Kansas.

She was an outstanding homemaker, enjoyed cooking large meals for her family, and was an avid quilter. She was a member of St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Elmer, of the home; two sons, Larry Hammerschmidt and his wife Cathy of Smolan, Kansas, and David Hammerschmidt and his wife Tammy of Solomon, Kansas; a daughter, Linda Kendrick and her husband Marshall of Newton, Kansas; a sister, Delores Augustine of Salina; four grandchildren, Terry Kendrick, Eric Kendrick and his wife Stephanie, Crystal Hammerschmidt and Brad Hammerschmidt; and three great-grandchildren, Tegan, Eason and Addison Kendrick.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 30, 2006 at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud, Salina, Kansas, with Father Kerry Ninemire officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Salina, Kansas.

A vigil service will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, Hospice of Salina or the American Lung Association of Kansas.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
