Robert L. "Bob" Hommes, 79, Salina, died Tuesday, August 15, 2006. Mr. Hommes was born June 15, 1927, in Independence, Mo. He had worked as a salesman for the Sunshine Biscuit Company for more than 22 years and retired from ADM Gooch Foods in 1996. He was a member of the St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the VFW Post 1432, all of Salina. He served during World War II and in Korea in the Merchant Marine Corps. He had attended the University of Missouri. He married the former Eleanor “Ellie” (Degenhardt) Burghart on June 12, 1954, at St. Mary’s Church in Independence, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lily (Henning) Hommes; and a brother, Wayne “Bud” Hommes in 2005. Survivors include his wife, Ellie, of the home; a son, Paul Burghart and wife Laura of Wichita; four daughters, Charlotte Burghart Congleton and husband Bill of Manhattan, Susan Wilson and husband Greg of Leawood, Carol Ball and husband Ted of Parker, Colo., and Elizabeth Dix and husband Brad of Salina; a brother, Harry Hommes of Independence, Mo.; two sisters, Pauline Sorenson of Harrisburg, Pa., and June Piper of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud, Salina. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina. A vigil/rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina or the St. Mary Church Endowment Fund. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. |
