Victor E. McCormick
October 24, 1923 - August 13, 2006

Victor E. McCormick, 82, Salina, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006.

Mr. McCormick was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Tescott. He was a truck transportation manager for Gooch Feed Mills and ADM Milling for 30 years and had worked for Salina Parks and Recreation Commission helping maintain Jerry Ivy Park.

He served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corp and was a lifetime Salina Leslie Krebs American Legion Post member and former Elks and Moose Lodge member. He was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 6, Salina, and a baseball and bowling coach. He as an honorary member of the Salina Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

He married the former Jane Pauline Sells on Oct. 8, 1977, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Salina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. McCormick and the former Lucille Ghaghan; and a daughter, Gayle, in 1976.

Survivors include his wife, Jane, of Salina; two sons, James of Barbados, West Indies, and wife Ann of Denver, N.C., and Larry “Mouse” of Salina; a daughter, Connie of Hawaii, and husband Kerry Gellert of Germany; two stepsons, Jim and wife Amy Gillett of Lost Springs and Bob and wife Debbie Gillett of Marion; three grandchildren, Mindy Ann Pope, Kirsten Star McCormick and Jamie Irene McCormick; six stepgrandchildren, Kerreen Conley, John Gellert, Jayme Becker, Jarad Gillett, Sean Gillett and Brandon Gillett; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Cassidy Becker, Logan Gillett and Angela Wright.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, the Rev. Vance Eckstrom officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington, with full military honors.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Salina, or Tammy Walker Cancer Center, Salina.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.
