Sylvia J. Oglesby, 78, Salina, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006. Mrs. Oglesby was born Sylvia Jean Zavitz on July 29, 1927, to Earl Ray and Idell (Pettigrew) Zavitz, in Paris, Ark. She was a homemaker and a drug and addiction counselor at St. John’s Hospital, Salina, and was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 27 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Billy A. Oglesby, in 1995. Survivors include two sons, Lewis “Butch” Ray Rains and wife JoLinda of Salina and Billy Michael Oglesby and wife Pat of Strasburg, Colo.; a daughter, Deborah Jean Schmidt and husband Perry of Topeka; a sister, Ruth Mars of Russelville, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Curt Oglesby and wife Amy, Michele Roesner and husband Rayne, Mark Hendrickson and wife Julie, Travis Rains and wife Katalina, Trenton Rains and wife Kelly, Michael Schmidt and Trevor Rains; and six great-grandchildren, Aly, Breanna, Collin, Grace, Anna and Brynden. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Enterprise. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina or Presbyterian Manor, Salina. There will be no visitation. The body was cremated. |
