Mr. Shanahan was born Aug. 17, 1927, in Salina. He farmed in the Salina area and was a truck driver for Graves Truck Line for 30 years. He served two tours of duty in the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1954. He loved to fish.

His wife, Delores Ann, died in 2001.

Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Shanahan and Linda Beneke, both of Salina, and Susan Rothwell of Wichita; two brothers, Dan of California and Mike of Walker, Nev.; two sisters, Rita Riordan of Salina and Mary Jane Wessling of St. Marys; two grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina.

A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401.

Memorials may be made to the church or VFW Post 1432.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
