Vergil Glenn Simmons
November 27, 1917 - July 16, 2006

Vergil Glenn Simmons, 88, Salina, died Sunday, July 16, 2006.

Mr. Simmons was born Nov. 27, 1917, in Banner County, Neb. He was a cowboy, auto mechanic and carpenter. He was in the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was stationed at Fort Benning, Ga., and was a guard at the Japanese POW camp in the Aleutian Islands. He enjoyed gardening, doing handy work and volunteering at his church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Jeanne Irvine, in 1979.

Survivors include two daughters, Deb Weishaar and husband Jeff of Salina and Beth Simmons of McPherson; and four grandchildren, Adam, Alec, Alyse and Annie Weishaar of Salina.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Cathedral Episcopal Church, Bishop the Right Rev. James Adams Jr. and Dean Emeritus Timothy E. Kline officiating. Inurnment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 24, in Mitchell Cemetery, Mitchell, Neb.

Memorials may be made to the Christ Cathedral Youth Playground Fund.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
