Leland R. Skaggs

Leland R. Skaggs, 86, Salina, formerly of Phillipsburg, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006.

Mr. Skaggs was born April 24, 1919, in Salina. He was an optometrist in Phillipsburg for 40 years. He graduated from Illinois College of Optometry, Chicago, in 1947. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Salina. He was an avid horticulturist and horse enthusiast.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, assigned to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces. He ended his service as a major.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of the home; a son, Richard of Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Susan Skaggs of Centennial, Colo., and LeeAnn Romaniszyn of Salina; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, Riverside Plaza, 600 E. Elm, Salina 67401. A private inurnment will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

There will be no visitation.
