He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Helga Martha on November 17, 1955 in Stuttgart, Germany.

He was employed by Exline, Inc., Salina for 35 years. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and loved to hunt, fish and enjoyed spending time on their farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Helga, of the home; two brothers, Billy J. Smith of Formoso, Kansas and Van L. Smith of Mankato, Kansas; a sister, Jackie Keener of Lakeland, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

There will be no services or visitation. Cremation has taken place. Private inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Salina or a charity of the donor's choice.
