Mary Jane Swanson, 84, Salina, died Tuesday, February 28, 2006. Mrs. Swanson was born Mary Jane Pickering on Jan. 1, 1922, in Salina. She worked as a waitress for the Newport Grill in Salina and was a sales clerk at Stiefel’s Department Store and Jilds Bridal Shop, both of Salina. She was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and AARP. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert V. Swanson Sr., in 1991; a son, Robert V. “Buddy” Swanson Jr., in 2001; three brothers, Alex Pickering, Harold Pickering and Robert Earl Pickering; and three sisters, Catherine Bachofer, Virginia Shivers and Dorothy Pickering. Survivors include four daughters, Janice Cain and husband Marvin, Darlene Donivan and husband Erland and Carol Woody and husband Harry, all of Salina, and Barbara Knox and husband Leonard of St. George, Utah; a brother, Stanley Pickering and wife Carol of Seattle; three sisters, Helen Lee of Salina, Avis Ringle of Holyrood and Nancy Mosburg and husband Bill of Bonner Springs; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Salina. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina. A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina or the Holiday Resort Adult Care Center of Salina. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. |
