Janice K. Baldwin

Janice K. Baldwin, 59, Salina, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007.

Jan was born Janice K. Moore on December 22, 1948 in Phillipsburg, Kansas. She was both a CPA and a grower. She operated a tax practice from her home. As a grower, she grew and sold fresh cut peonies nationwide, and fruits and vegetables locally through a sustainable community agriculture program and farmers markets.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business in 1982 from Fort Hays State University and received a Master of Business Administration degree from Kansas State – Salina in 1992.

Before moving to Salina, she had an accounting practice in Stockton, Kansas. She was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Public Accountants Association of Kansas and served several years as a delegate to annual meetings of the National Society of Public Accountants. She was also a past member of the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

She was recently a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Salina Farmers Market Association, Inc. and was a member and supporter of the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers, Inc., the American Peony Society, the Kansas Rural Center, Kansas Vegetable Growers, and Slow Food, USA. For many years she was a volunteer for VITA.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Adrianne.

She is survived by her husband, David A. Rettele; a son, Charles R. Dillon, of Indianapolis, IN; a daughter, Candice I. Wilhite, of Salina, an aunt, Margaret Welch, of Wilmington, NC; a sister Patricia Ott of Tulsa, OK, a sister Sharon Schneider and husband Bruce of Wichita; a step-son Garrick A. Rettele and wife Mary of Coffeyville; a step-son Bradley E. Rettele and wife Renee of Lawrence; a cousin Robert Welch and wife Gina of Wilmington, NC; eleven grandchildren, Robert, Courtney, Kylie, Kameron, Filip, Chandler, Joel, Meaghan, Geddy, Delaney, and Mason; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth, Salina, Kansas. There will be no visitation. The body was cremated. Memorials may be made through Ryan Mortuary to either the Tammy Walker Cancer Center or The Land Institute.
