Paul Garland Grill

Paul Garland Grill, 85, Salina, died Monday, June 4, 2007.

Mr. Grill was born May 17, 1922 at Ellsworth, Kansas, the son of Paul Martin Grill and Myrtle Curtis Grill. He married Hannah May Holcom May 7, 1949 at First Baptist Church, Salina, Kansas. Paul and Hannah were blessed with two beautiful children, Paul Martin Grill II of Pratt, Kansas and Lori Ann Anderson of Columbus, Nebraska.

Paul is survived by wife, Hannah, son, Paul Martin “Marty” Grill II and wife Julie, daughter, Lori Ann Anderson and husband Phil, grandchildren, Hannah Sue Grill, baby to be Paul Martin Grill, III, Trevor John Anderson, Heather Hannah Anderson and step grandson James Harrington and brother George Grill.

Paul worked 33 ½ years for Kansas Power & Light in the Hutchinson Division at Turon, Kansas as the KPL Outside District Man over several towns and the oil fields near Pratt. Paul was active in the Turon United Methodist Church, Scouts work meant so much to Paul because he was an Eagle Scout. Paul was Master of the Turon Masonic Lodge. Paul enjoyed painting with oil, acrylic, and writing. Paul enjoyed doing drawing and writing for the Ellsworth “Bear Cats” year books at Ellsworth High School. Paul was a top swimmer, high diver, skater, and operated Ellsworth Swimming Pool.

Paul painted many paintings from “Washington Crossing the Delaware,” “Church in the Valley,” “Rodeo Pictures” and the “Jesus Sermon on the Mount” that he did for wife, Hannah at the age of 84 years of age. Paul loved flowers and raised many roses. Paul’s greatest love was his family, wife of 58 years, two children and his beautiful grandchildren.

Paul is a veteran of World War II, where he spent two years in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. Paul has two Bronze Stars.

Paul had a great sense of humor and to everyone of Ellsworth, he was GARLAND GRILL. He was proud of his hometown.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, the Rev. Bobby George officiating. Burial will be in the Ellsworth Cemetery, Ellsworth.

Memorials may be made to the family for the education of Paul Garland Grill’s grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.
