Mrs. Hearns was born Elmyra Joan Playford on Feb. 15, 1924, in Lawton, Mich. She was drain commissioner for Van Buren County, Paw Paw, Mich., for more than 10 years.

She married James A. Hearns II on April 2, 1943, in Detroit.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980; and a son, Roger C. Hearns, in 1967.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald L. of Salina and James A. of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a daughter, Jaqueline Dolph of Kalamazoo; two brothers, Wyett of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Paul of Phoenix; a sister, Darlene Springer of Mattawan, Mich.; five grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Inurnment will be in the Lawton Cemetery, Lawton, at a later date.
