Jo Ann House, 76, Salina, died Monday, July 16, 2007. Mrs. House was born Jo Ann Hartzell on May 31, 1931, near Westfall, to Everett and Velma Ellen. She was a registered nurse for the Salina Regional Health Center in the intensive care unit and transferred to work in the cardiac lab for two years before her retirement in 2005. She also worked for the Salina Clinic for Dr. L.S. Nelson Jr. in the 1950s. She graduated from Asbury School of Nursing in 1952. She married Richard R. “Dick,” in 1952, in Salina. She was a member of the National Critical Care Nurses Association. She loved all sports and was a Kansas University basketball fan. She was named Salina’s Best Nurse in the Salina Journal’s 2003 Reader’s Choice Awards. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Dr. Peter J. Survivors include her husband, Richard R. "Dick" of the home; a son, Dr. Ray E. of Salina; two sisters, Mary Ellen Nelson and husband Richard and Dr. Beverlee Kissick and husband Don Grob, all of Salina; and three grandchildren, Ricky, Robby and Ryan House. A private family service will be at a later date. Inurnment will be in Glendale Cemetery, Glendale. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jo Ann House Nursing Scholarship Fund, in care of the Salina Regional Health Foundation. There will be no visitation. Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, is handling arrangements. |
