Ms. Hughes was born Florence I. Broyles on Aug. 27, 1917, in Vermillion, S.D. She was a nurse's aid in convalescent care.

Survivors include five daughters, Frances J. Johnson of Salina, Lela B. Walz, Rosalee R. Shears and Karen J. Gibbs, all of Vermillion, and Janice E. Erickson of Davis, S.D.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.
