Joyce G. Hunt, 86, Salina, died Thursday, January 11, 2007. Mrs. Hunt was born Catherine Joyce Ganssle on April 3, 1920, the daughter of Waldorf Louis and Anna Elizabeth (Davis) Ganssle. She attended Washington High School, Salina, graduating in 1937. She then attended Lidenwood College in Missouri for two years prior to attending and graduating from the University of Wisconsin in 1943 with a bachelor's degree in journalism. She worked at the Salina Journal and became women's editor prior to becoming the Director of Publicity and Publications at Kansas Wesleyan University. She worked for many years as secretary of the Scottish Rite Bodies at the Masonic Temple and at Geisendorf Rush Smith Funeral Home. She was a lay grader of English papers for the Salina School District 305. She married James Robert Hunt in 1943 in Salina at Christ Cathedral Episcopal Church. He preceded her in death in 1976. She was an active member of Christ Cathedral Episcopal Church, the Salina Symphony Guild, BW Chapter of PEO Sisterhood and the Kansas Wesleyan Women's Auxiliary. She held memberships in the Audubon Society and the Association of Women in Communications. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Margaret Ann "Polly" Ellis. Survivors include a son, David of Weston, Ore.; a daughter, Catherine, of the home; and three nephews, Steve Ellis of Colorado Springs, Colo., Tad Ellis of Leeton, Mo., and John Ellis of Lawrence and their families. The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Cathedral Episcopal Church, 138 S. Eighth, Salina 67401, the Very Rev. Timothy Kline officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Roselawn Memorial Park, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina 67401. Memorials may be made to the church, Salina Symphony or Via Christi Foundation: Guest Lodging. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. |
