Virgil B. "Lefty" Loy, 83, Salina, died Friday, January 26, 2007. Mr. Loy was born Sept. 23, 1923, in Beverly, the son of Leonard C. and Vera (Painter) Loy. He worked as a teacher and coach at Lindsborg High School for three years and St. John's Military School for 36 years, retiring in 1988. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946, stationed in the Pacific. He was a lifetime member of the St. John's Military School Foundation, VFW Post 1432 and the Salina Elks Lodge. He also was a member of the Muleskinners Club and Immanuel Lutheran Church. He married Helen Elmborg on Dec. 20, 1952, at Bethany Church, Lindsborg. He graduated from Bethany College in 1949 and received his Master's degree from Emporia State in 1964. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Helen, of the home; a son, Larry Loy and wife Karen of King, N.C.; a daughter, Kirstine Kelly and husband Tom of Centennial, Colo.; two brothers, Harvey Loy and wife Esther of McPherson and Royce Loy and wife Rita of Clearwater, Fla.; a sister, Eileen Nelson of Salina; and five grandchildren, Dea Tovar and husband Arnold of Heidelberg, Germany, Karri and Kassidy Loy of Raleigh, N.C., and Karly and Jacob Loy of King. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 255 S. Seventh, Salina, the Rev. Kent Happel officiating. Inurnment will be at 1:30 p.m. in Beverly Cemetery, Beverly. Memorials may be made to the church, Hospice of Salina or St. John's Military School. There will be no visitation. Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, is handling arrangements. |
