Robert Murphy “Bob” Pickrell, 78, Salina, died Thursday, May 3, 2007. Mr. Pickrell was born Jan. 1, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Clarence Bramblet Pickrell and Bonnie Mae (Murphy) Pickrell. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1951 with a degree in business. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years as a link trainer instructor in Pensacola, Fla. He managed Barnard Home Oil Co. until it was sold in 1972. He formed Truck Plazas Inc. in 1965 and managed Skelly Truck Stop and restaurant on North Ninth Street in Salina until 1975. He purchased Royal Tire in Salina in 1969 and managed it until 1990. He semi-retired in 1986 and spent the winter months in Palm Desert, Calif. He was a past master and a Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, and was a member of Pipes and Drums and Jesters and Isis Shrine. He was a former director of First Bank Kansas. He married Ruth Abercrombie on June 14, 1952, in Barnard. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; a daughter, Tina Zimmer Leiker and husband Rob of Salina; a son, Robert M. Jr. and wife Barbara of Salina; four grandchildren, Angie Zimmer, Jeremy Zimmer, Isaac McCabe and Ben McCabe; and a great-grandchild, Elan McCabe. There will be no service or visitation. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or FJC, Donor Advised Fund, P.O. Box 282, Salina, Ewing Sarcoma Cancer Research in honor of Jeremy Zimmer. Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, is handling arrangements. |
