Mrs. Pillar was born Virginia Nelson on March 29, 1933, in Salina. She was a first-grade teacher in Connecticut for 35 years, retiring in 1992.

Survivors include her husband, Charles F., of Brookville; a son, Charles S. and wife Karen L. of New London, Conn.; two brothers, Vincent Nelson and wife Dorothy of Mesquite, Texas, and John Robert Nelson and wife Lou Ann of Bella Vista, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Tia and April Pillar; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 302 S. Seventh, Salina. Inurnment will be at a later date in Salemsborg Lutheran Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.
