Mr. Schmidt was born April 14, 1930, in Dunlap, Iowa. He worked for Metropolitan Insurance Co. in Salina for more than 25 years, retiring as district manager in 1985.

His wife, Vivian J., died in 2000.

Survivors include three daughters, Dixie Roets of Salina, Diane Parrish of Westport, Conn., and Suellen Schmidt of Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Elgia Stevenson of Fishers, Ind.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Inurnment will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.
