Mr. Schmidt was born Sept. 10, 1977, in Salina. He was a heavy equipment operator for Alstom Power Corp., Concordia.

Survivors include a son, Kayden Lee of Salina; two daughters, Payton and Lindsey, both of Abilene; a brother, Jacob of Salina; his parents, Douglas Lee Sr. and Marie, of Salina; and two grandparents, Shirley Schmidt and Charlotte Roets, both of Salina.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Scared Heart Cathedral, Ninth and Iron, Salina. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

A vigil with a rosary said will be at 6 p.m. Monday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401.

Memorials may be made to the Douglas Lee Schmidt Jr. Children's Educational Fund, in care of the family.

Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
