Mr. Scholen was born June 20, 1930, in Maywood, Ill. He was a retired technical sergeant for the U.S. Air Force, serving in Korea and Vietnam, retiring after 23 years of service. He worked as an aircraft mechanic for America West until retiring in 2003.

Survivors include his wife, Ann, of the home; a son, David E. of Phoenix; a daughter, Janet S. Hanchett of Greenwood, Ind.; and three granddaughters.

A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Gypsum Valley Cemetery, rural Gypsum.

There will be no public visitation.

Memorials may be made to an Alzheimer’s organization of the donor’s choice.
