Darrell “Dean” Van Wie, 72, Salina, died Friday, May 4, 2007. Mr. Van Wie was born Dec. 7, 1934, in Salina, the son of Roy H. and Lois A. Van Wie. He attended Salina Central High School, then joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served during the Korean War. He worked for numerous defense-based contractors before joining the Department of the Army until he retired. He then worked in the paint department at Sutherlands for 12 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald R. Survivors include a sister, Barbara of Clinton Township, Mich.; a son, Kevin of Salina; a daughter, Kristin Choy of Anchorage, Alaska; three grandchildren, Michael, Kailin and Katharin Choy of Anchorage; two nephews, Randy Rae and family of Clinton Township and Ron Rae and family of Chicago; and a niece, Debie Armstrong and family of Westland. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Prairiedale Cemetery, Talmage. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or U.S. Marine Corps League. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. |
