He was born April 12, 1930, in Miltonvale to Hilbern Henry and Mayme A. Young Ahrendes. He owned Ahrendes Clothing in Miltonvale from 1952-67 and retired from the Kansas State Job Service Center, Salina. He loved his pet dog “Lucy” and riding motorcycles. Hilbern married Beulah Elaine Carlson on July 17, 1966, at First Presbyterian Church, Salina. He is preceded in death by a son, Frank, in 1995.

He is survived by his wife, Beulah; two daughters, Jean and spouse Larry Adam and Linda and spouse Jerry Hoeffner, all of Salina; two grandchildren, Jeff Adam and Eric Adam and spouse Brandee; and four great-grandchildren, Katie, Karter, Karee and Kelsee.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at the Ryan Mortuary. Friends may call on Tuesday from noon until 8 p.m., where the family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 until 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
