John Leland Hopp
September 5, 1921 - September 18, 2008

MARQUETTE -- John Leland Hopp, 87, Marquette, was born Sept. 5, 1921, in Marquette. He passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, with his family at his side.

Leland was a lifetime resident of Marquette and a lifetime member of Elim Lutheran Church in Marquette. He attended Range School House and was a Marquette High School graduate. He attended Bethany College for two years before having to leave and take over the family farming business at the time of his father’s death.

Leland was united in marriage to Lauree Lindquist on April 27, 1945, at Elim Lutheran Church. Leland and Lauree had three children, Dianna, Sheryl and Vance.

Mr. Hopp was a lifelong farmer, rancher and businessman. Along with his brother, Melvin, he owned and operated Hopp’s Café and L & M Tavern in beautiful downtown Marquette.

Leland and his brother also did custom crop cutting. He and his wife, Lauree, were longtime members of the Yacht Club at Kanopolis State Park.

Leland was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen; father, Arthur; wife, Lauree; brother, Melvin; grandson, Ryan Loder; and daughter-in-law, Beth Hopp. He is survived by his three children, Dianna Moore, Hawaii, Sheryl Loder, Salina, and Vance, Salina; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Doherty, Mo.; and a brother, Charles, Illinois.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Elim Lutheran Church, Marquette, followed by burial in Lutheran Cemetery, Marquette.

Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Memorials may be given to the church or Marquette Elementary Education Fund. Ryan Mortuary, Salina, is handling arrangements.
